Definition: IVF stands for in vitro fertilization. During a typical IVF procedure, fertility drugs are used to stimulate the ovaries. Then, the eggs are retrieved, and placed together with sperm in a special nutrient rich cocktail. After fertilization takes place, one to three embryos are placed inside the woman’s uterus.
